YOUR LIGHT

Your Light – A Poem by Yusuf Achmad

Silent Companions in the Sky

In a world saturated with artificial light and silent machines, this poem seeks something deeper: a light that is not merely reflected, but sourced from the soul. Yusuf Achmad’s “Your Light” is a meditation on presence, absence, and the spiritual tension between illusion and truth. Through quiet dialogue with a distant star—perhaps a satellite, perhaps something more—he invites us to question what truly illuminates our lives.
Your
Light
It’s been a while since I greeted you,
I said to the star I once called
a one-eyed iron bird.
My friend said: it looks like a surveillance machine,
gazing silently from a voiceless sky.
“So… do you have a child now, or a companion?”
I asked—half doubtful, half curious.
You stayed mute, beside another light,
smaller, yet equally silent.
I watched your lights from afar—they’re not the same.
The glitter of supermarkets, rows of colorful food,
cars and motorcycles drawing near without a word,
then someone, face-down, collided—
his face glowing, but lifeless.
I seek the true light,
not your false shimmer, my old friend,
not the dim shine that merely reflects
without source, without soul.
I’ll keep your light,
heeding the book’s words:
“Whoever finds no barrier in his heart
shall be destroyed.”
I do not know
whether you are that barrier,
or the spark that triggers the one barrier
toward no barrier—only One.

“Your Light” is not just a poem—it’s a quiet confrontation with the illusions of modernity. Yusuf Achmad reminds us that not all light is truth, and not all silence is peace. In the tension between surveillance and soul, between shimmer and source, we are invited to seek the One light that remains when all barriers fall.
